We spent the night introducing ourselves, having a few drinks, talking just about everything.
Early Saturday morning, myself and my team went to registration to pick up our race numbers, timing chip, goody bag and relay race band.
The aim for this race was my team Beastly8 to run around 5 mile loop of forest trails, taking it turns, passing the band to the runner for the whole 24 hours.
Conveniently, this weekend happened to be pouring down with rain, thunder & lightning for the whole 24 hours, so you can imagine what mess mud & rain makes - This to me added to the fun!
We had to relay on each other, figure out how long it would take the previous runner so we could be in place to take the band. This had to be continuous throughout the night! Yes we were tired, wet, hungry, cold.. All we wanted to do was sleep, forget about the extra lap but we all did it, we as a team completed this 24hr endurance challenge.
I just asked for some reminders of this weekend, I wanted a refresher also I wanted to know what stood out the most for them.. So far I got
Knee deep in mud - Literally, it wasn't just ankle deep! We were sliding, getting stuck in mud, mud up our face. I found a new love for mud this weekend!
BBQ - Thanks to some great cooks we did not get hungry
Camping - It was constant all night, people in and out of their tents, preparing for their lap, Myself and 2 others managed to squeeze in one section of a tent, thankfully it worked out well we were not sleeping the same time.
Toilets - Yes, portaloo and a portashower, with a few thousand people using them you can imagine the mess and the smell. Thankfully the smell of the bacon did override this :)
The Bar - Halfway through the lap, in the middle of the forest was our drinks station, this was not a typical race drinks station it was an actual bar! unfortunately I did not take any pictures but when I find it I shall add it on here.
The VW camper van on route - I do remember this camper van but to be honest I have no idea why it was there! I am sure it was mentioned, not everyday you see a camper van parked in a forest path.
Cake - The chocolate cake made by the Adams family, this kept me going during the early hours of the morning. I am sure it did with everyone else ( If I left them enough)
This weekend, definitely one to remember!
