The crowds were absolutely amazing, the race was well organised. For me, well I nearly didn't make it! Relying on public transport is not a good idea. I was nearly tempted to spend the day shopping in Basingstoke as South West Trains were delayed. Arriving at Bath train station 10 minutes before the race was due to start, myself and one other had to do a mad dash through the town, dropped my bag off then continued my mad dash through the field, past the start gates (which were empty at this point) Trying to find my friend out of 12000 people I knew I would not find her! 2 miles in, I spotted her bright yellow top, we were both shocked! 1. I found her 2. I made it to the race and 3. I was still smiling.
One thing I had on my mind was, do not give up! How can I write about my Bath half if I did not attend.
The spectators were cheering everyone on, children giving out jelly babies, locals were blowing their horns. Atmosphere was buzzing and so was I. Please take a look at the promotional video, be inspired to register for 2015 I am certainly going to be doing this again!
One week later my legs have recovered after a lot of stretching and few days resting, just in time to do a local race in my city, of course I have done plenty of runs in Salisbury before but nothing organised. I was nervous of the fact I will be running with people a lot fitter than me, I was more exposed and not hiding within the thousands. The race was quite hard it was the first day of sunny weather this year, I was over dressed and did not prepare myself for the heat. I think I came 10th from last, I do not mind because we all have to start somewhere, right? One thing I did like, people were still cheering on us slow runners, everyone congratulated me as if I was the first person to finish. People are amazing! I was running with a good friend, normally he would of done this route a lot quicker, his pace is a lot faster than mine but not once did he go off ahead and leave me.
Next race Cranleigh 15/21 Sunday March 16th. This, again I am quite nervous, another low key event full of super fit people. This race was recommended to me by a friend, either run a 15 mile or 21. I think I will end up doing 15, I shall keep you posted.
