The morning of the run my family took me down there as they were having a day out anyway and wanted to do some shopping and see me at the finish line. I said to myself, If I am feeling rough by the time I get there I will not do it. Of course by the time I did arrive running off adrenaline and excited I soon forgot about my jetlag symptoms - until mile 3 :)
I have been to Bournemouth so many times I have done a half marathon there few months ago, I know what the roads are like, not too hilly, near the sea and it won't be difficult at all the weather was perfect not too hot or cold. I made sure I was hydrated by drinking these energy drinks I purchased last minute. These drinks that I had never had before + jetlag / cold or what ever it was = needing the toilet every 10 minutes. One of the things I have learnt throughout my marathon a month journey is knowing when to drink, how much to drink so I can avoid lengthy waits in the portal loo on route. Mile 3 I was feeling sorry for myself, imaging stealing someone's bike, no one would notice if I cycled the rest of the journey and go and meet my family. Of course I did not want a medal because that was cheating, I just wanted this run to finish quick or to find a toilet quicker! I ended up not stealing a bike, or getting on a bus which was another thought running through my mind. By the time I got to mile 10 I found my running mojo, I had no idea what was going on between mile 3 - 10. I am not sure if it was my wall I hit, or close to burning out, or just feeling ill and fed up, but I remember by the sea front a group were playing the drums, they helped me get my rhythm back, I took one last trip to the toilet, had some water and I ran, I ran alongside the beach, wind in my hair (thinking of having a coffee at the end) but I did not stop. I was starting to enjoy myself.
This write up will be short and sweet because being honest with you, this day was a blur. I made it to the end, got my medal, met my family and went home and of course slept until the next day.
Next challenge is November, I have decided to rest my legs, have a lazy month until my November challenge. I shall post as soon as I have completed.
